4. Alter Bridge
To clear something up before I get into this one, Alter Bridge are my favourite band, so I cant praise them enough, but I really do believe they are incredibly underrated.
Fronted by Myles Kennedy, probably the best vocalist in the world today, Alter Bridge has produced three studio albums since their formation in 2004. Alter Bridge was formed by Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips, three of the members of Creed. Tremonti has gone on record as saying they formed Alter Bridge out of a true love of music, a desire to make music for the sake of it, rather than to make money. Their first album,
One Day Remains, was criticised for being reminiscent of Creed but I felt it was a good album and a great launch-pad. Their second album,
Blackbird, which was the first time Myles Kennedy contributed lyrics and guitar, was a real step-up for the band, it showed a much heavier and darker side to them. I found it hard to imagine how theyd top Blackbird but they did so with the critically acclaimed
ABIII. Their 3rd album was a classic from start to finish and again showed the band going darker with lyrics but also experimenting more with structure. Isolation, Ties That bind, Find The Real, Watch Over You, I Know It Hurts, Blackbird, Slip To The Void and Metalingus are only a few of Alter Bridges best songs. Blackbird is my favourite song, its a 7-minute epic that you can completely get lost in, especially around the four minute mark when the dual solo begins and you forget theres no singing for a few minutes. Alter Bridge are incredible, in my opinion the
most underrated band on this list. Kennedys vocal range is amazing, his normal singing voice is great and his high notes are insane. Pair that with Tremontis remarkable guitar abilities and surprisingly strong backing vocals and they make one hell of a team. And thats not even mentioning the unique bass-play of Brian Marshall and the powerful drumming of Scott Phillips and youve got one heck of an underrated group.
