3. The Damned Things
Having only one album to their name this one might be a long shot but The Damned Things made quite the impression with their debut.
Ironiclast was released in 2010 to rave reviews and rightfully so. The Damned Things are a super group that consist of Keith Buckley of Everytime I Die, Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley of Fall Out Boy, Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano of Antrhax and Josh Newton of White Knives and formerly Everytime I Die. Thats a hell of a line-up. As someone whos never been a huge fan of Everytime I Die I was wary of this band when I initially heard of them but gave them a chance and didnt regret it.
Ironiclast was a great album that merges the styles of each members respective band to create something unique. One odd word I keep coming back to when I try to define their sound is bluesy. Which Im sure not many people would envisage when they look at the line-up but there really is a blues element to the record. One review I read for the album complained that it resonated Fall Out Boy but I really dont get that from it, I like Fall Out Boy but I just dont hear the comparisons. The only similarity to Fall Out Boy, for me, is the lyrics, which often read like poetry, and that is not a complaint. Its a heavy album with an abundance of catchy melodic choruses and Buckleys voice truly shines as the centrepiece of the album for me. The best songs on the album are Weve Got A Situation Here, Bad Blood, Little Darling and Friday Night (Going Down In Flames). There are no bad songs on the album so I highly recommend listening to it now; bands are never more accessible than when theyve only got one album. The super group aspect is disappointing as it means well only get Damned Things music when all members have free time, which wont happen too often. So appreciate
Ironiclast.
