10 Criminally Underrated Classic Rock Songs You Need To Hear
1. I Me Mine - The Beatles
From day one, George Harrison was always the most underrated member of the Beatles. His songs were always a welcome change of pace from the band's typical sound, but it's pretty easy to get overshadowed when you have John Lennon and Paul McCartney on either side of you.
When the band were falling apart making the Let It Be project, Harrison had an opportunity to come through with a slew of new material. Saving the best bits for his inevitable solo album, Harrison's "I Me Mine" is still one of the most captivating songs he released during his Beatle years. The chord sequence is so free-flowing that it almost feels like it owes something to classical music.
It doesn't stay in that mold for long though, with the choruses quickly turning into a hard rocking swing, with Harrison delivering some of his most furious guitar leads. The only downside to the song is that it's too short. After initially scrapping the song, producer Phil Spector was brought in to do some arranging so it would end up being something worthy of inclusion on the album. "I Me Mine" is one of the Beatles' most underappreciated rockers, one that wows the listener and fades from view long before we were ready for it to end.
