10 Criminally Underrated Linkin Park Songs
4. When They Come For Me – A Thousand Suns (2010)
This is another tune with a fascinating instrumental. Tribal drums and spiritual-sounding chants are at the forefront of ‘When They Come For Me’, and as such, it’s one of the more unique offerings in the realm of alternative rock.
Thematically, Shinoda takes the lead on vocals and addresses the naysayers who dislike the band’s experimentation. It’s an interesting concept and it sits neatly on top of one of the more aggressive instrumentals on the album.
What’s more, the finale is terrific. After a subdued bridge with Bennington’s vocals at the helm, the song kicks back with a powerful climax that brings everything together. The weaving strings in the background of the mix are particularly effective during this final chorus.
Indeed, it’s a shame ‘When They Come For Me’ was never released as a single because it deserves much more recognition. It’s unlike anything else in the band’s discography and it’s also a great song to experience live.
