10 Darkest Albums In Rock Music History
2. Walk Among Us - Misfits
So...how did we make it to this long in the list and not once did we bring up horror punk? Seeing how the realm of punk rock was always about rallying against straight society and making something intentionally abrasive, the genre of horror was practically made to find its way here eventually. And when it finally hit on that first Misfits album, it was absolutely glorious.
If you were to just listen to the song though, this isn't necessarily the kind of caustic rock that would make you want to shut the thing off. From a sonic standpoint, this is the typical take on punk rock that you'd find anywhere, only with everything single song bringing you down a dark path. Written by Glenn Danzig long before he made the movie version of Verotika a thing, all of these songs are an absolute blast to listen to.
This isn't just a gimmick either. Whenever you go to one of their shows, things tend to be that nuts, complete with Jerry Only's famous devil lock hairdo and a stage getup that is probably what KISS would have went for if they decided to focus on horror instead of...well...money. Still, from the moment that you hear Glenn belt his heart out on Mommy Can I Go Out and Kill Tonight?, this wasn't your average rock and roll. This was what Elvis would have sounded like if those evangelists were actually right about him being demonic back in the day.
