10 Darkest Hard Rock Songs Of All Time

8. I Want You (She's So Heavy) - The Beatles

For all the accolades that have been bestowed on the Beatles over the years, metal gods is not one of them. If we're talking about the genesis of the heavier side of rock and roll, you'd have to probably look at someone like the Kinks of the Rolling Stones to see where the British Invasions' teeth were coming from. When the Fab Four did decide to get a little hectic, they were going to go as full on as possible.

Originally conceived as an experiment in minimalism, there are practically just a handful of words to I Want You (She's So Heavy), with half of the lyrics being in the actual title. After starting off as just your average bluesy jam, the song practically becomes a whole different beast once you get to the breakdown section, with a looping guitar lick that seems to lull you into some demented trance.

It's almost like John Lennon himself was aware of the hypnotic quality of the riff too, seeing how he chose to end the song by literally cutting the tape at a random moment before the riff was really over. Allow me to remind you that this is the same record where the next song is Here Comes the Sun, sandwiched next to one of the most abrasive songs in the rock canon. With this song alone, we have certified documentation for when stoner rock was born.
