10 David Bowie Songs That Will Make Your Life Better

4. Cat People (Putting Out Fire) (1982)

This initially gothic cut, spawned from the soundtrack of Paul Schrader's erotic horror film Cat People, has arguably long outlived the movie it came from, much like Absolute Beginners, helped in no small part by its use in Quentin Tarantino's war film Inglorious Basterds.

The song, which featured production from disco legend Giorgio Moroder, represents one of Bowie's strongest forays into the hard rock-tinged arena, bolstered in no small part by its insistent synth flourishes and significant vocal yelps, with the singer's rising voice arguably deployed only better on a handful of occasions.

Something of a culture vulture, Mr Steel can historically be found in three places; the local cinema, the local stadium or the local chip shop. He is an avowed fan of franchise films, amateur cricket and power-chords.
