10 Definitive Pop Music Songs Of The 2010s

4. Twenty One Pilots - Stressed Out

Alternative rock bands such as Blink-182, Paramore, and Fall Out Boy were influential in 2000s mainstream music, but this quickly faded as the electronic dance era of the early 2010s began. However, everything drastically altered in 2015 when Twenty-One Pilots' breakout hit Stressed Out brought back emo pop.

This hit song tackled the insecurities of growing up, which audiences completely fell in love with, propelling the song to number two on the Billboards hot 100. Alternative in ways similar to Royals by Lorde while reminiscent of 2000s angsty teen hits, Stressed Out gave Twenty-One Pilots its respect among the best musical duos in recent memory. This song, along with other Twenty-One Pilots hits, including Ride, Tear In My Heart, and Heathens, helped to build the band's fan base throughout its definitive moment in 2016.

Although Twenty-One Pilots have not yet charted as high since the release of Stressed Out, they've already developed their own loyal following that is enthusiastic about everything the duo releases.
