10 Delayed Hard Rock Albums That Weren't Worth The Wait
1. Chinese Democracy - Guns N Roses
And now we've come to one of the biggest delayed albums of all time. The album that stands almost like a legend in rock history for how long fans waited for it to finally be released. Even diehard fans of Tool who complain about the wait for Fear Inoculum can't hold a candle to how eager fans were to hear Guns N Roses Chinese Democracy.
Considering that Guns N Roses had made virtually nothing since the mid '90s, hearing that a new album from Axl Rose and friends should have been a slam dunk. But that phrase "Axl Rose and friends" should have triggered alarm bells, since none of the original GNR swagger is accounted for on here, instead leaving room for Axl to pour over his genius to find something that's worth including on a Guns release.
That's not to say you can't hear the money on the CD, with overdubs on top of overdubs and Axl's voice varying depending on which song you're listening to. There are even a few amazing guitar solos from people like Robin Finck and Bumblefoot, and yet it just feels like something that shouldn't have the name Guns N Roses anywhere near it. You shouldn't judge an album by its backstory, but when you spend over a million dollars over 17 years and deliver an album that's just okay, you totally blew it.
