10 Delayed Hard Rock Albums That Weren't Worth The Wait
6. Carnival Of Souls - KISS
Once the original version of KISS decided to reunite in the late '90s, it felt like their entire career hit the reset button. After over a decade of being out of makeup, the glam rock band that we knew in the midst of the hair metal revolution was washed away in favor of the superheroes who started it all again. They did have one album in the can though, and fans tried their best to actually get it released.
Being the final album recorded by the makeup-less version of the group, Carnival of Souls catches KISS at a strange point of transition in their career. Since their usual party rock sound wasn't en vogue anymore, this is actually one of the few instances where we see what a grunge KISS could look like, with Paul Stanley trading his guitar sound in for licks that could have come off of an Alice in Chains record.
Outside of the obvious genre hopping, it almost makes sense why this album was delayed coming out. Considering that the makeup was about to come back on and the original foursome was going to reunite, why the hell would you want to compete with yourself with two totally different sounding bands? It's definitely a different view of the band who wrote Detroit Rock City, but did we really need to start a petition for glorified grunge B-sides?
