10 Disappointing Albums By Legendary Bands

6. Other Voices - The Doors

For any hardcore fan of the Doors, the idea of the band continuing on without Jim Morrison just feels wrong to think about. Jim may not have played any instrument on their records, but his aura and poetry on every one of their records gave them the character and swagger that made them stand out among their contemporaries back in the day. The rest of the band still had to figure things out though, and Other Voices was their first try at soldiering on as a three piece.

While there are good ideas present on this record, a lot of these songs just feel like jam sessions that the band were working on around the time Jim had passed away, having the makings of potentially good Doors songs without any of the menace. With Ray Manzarak sing most of the songs, the swagger that the band has just feels neutered, sounding closer to a band like the Grateful Dead with a lot less energy in their delivery. It also doesn't help that the lyrics take a dip here as well, with songs like I'm Horny I'm Stoned not really having the impact as something like Riders on the Storm.

There may be some fans that still want to support this era of the band, but anyone who thinks of this as the classic stuff is missing out on one crucial detail. If this album had anyone else's name on it other than the Doors, chances are nobody would care.
