10 Dream Heavy Metal Tour Line-Ups

6. Deafheaven, Wolves In The Throne Room, Myrkur & Zeal & Ardor

Ever since Deafheaven wowed both metalheads and mainstream listeners in 2013 with their sophomore album Sunbather, the post-black metal/blackgaze niche has been one of the most critically acclaimed in modern heavy music. And while we already tapped the well of this postmodern subgenre when pitching for Møl to support Ihsahn earlier, there are still many more artists that deserve to be thrown out onto the road together.

Directly supporting the progenitors in Deafheaven would be Wolves in the Throne Room, who redefined experimental blackness in 2006 with Diadem of 12 Stars and are still feeling the love after the more recent smash hit Thrice Woven.

Beneath them would reside Myrkur: the solo project of one Amelie Bruun, which uses a plethora of folk-inspired tendencies and instruments to weave destructive songs that relish in all things gorgeous and natural. After the magnificently luscious display of her new album, Mareridt, Bruun deserves all the recognition and opportunities in the world.

Finally, opening would be Zeal & Ardor. Armed with unique, succinct tunes that weld African-American slave music and black metal together, Manuel Gagneux’s eclectic project would make for an indomitable start, balancing out ominous anthems like “Devil Is Fine” with the fury of “Come on Down”.
