10 Dream Heavy Metal Tour Line-Ups

4. Metallica, Exodus, Evile & Power Trip

Naturally, no list of the dream heavy metal tour line-ups would be complete without Metallica, who are regularly tipped as one of the genre’s best ever live bands. So in what context could we put them that can elevate them, but also stop them from burying their opening acts?

The answer could be deceptively simple: an all-killer-no-filler war of cagey veterans versus the new, young guard of thrash metal.

In one corner, both emanating proudly from San Francisco, California, would stand two of extreme metal’s most innovative gatekeepers: the almighty ‘Tallica and Exodus, each of which has fans who claim that that band single-handedly invented thrash. These names would make for an almost unbeatable challenge for the modern era, but the 2000s speed metal resurgence has spawned some hugely worthy and deserving challengers: Evile and Power Trip.

The latter is oft credited for kick-starting the thrash renaissance that fans are still enjoying to this day with their 2007 debut Enter the Grave, which – much like Master of Puppets before it – was produced by Flemming Rasmussen in his Sweet Silence Studios.

Power Trip, meanwhile, are a hardcore-fuelled flashback, armed with the brand new Nightmare Logic. The pure nostalgia of boisterous anthems like “Executioner’s Tax” cannot be understated and deserves to be experienced be a Metallica crowd.
