10 Emotional Rock Songs That Will Make You Cry
5. Mother Love - Queen
A rock star on the level of Freddie Mercury was never going to go down without a fight. Even when he was given his diagnosis with AIDS and given only a few years to live, he never stopped writing music, and often found himself in the studio until the day came that he succumbed to his illness. Queen still had half a record in their lap though, and what they did on Mother Love is the stuff of modern music legend.
Being one of the final vocal performances that Freddie had ever made, you can tell that the man was far from the greatest of health, being much more subdued. As the song ramps up though, we get glimpses of the kind of the frontman that he always was, going for high notes before a guitar solo kicks things into high gear. Then again, the most heartbreaking moment doesn't even come from Freddie really.
Once the next section of the song starts, you hear Brian May take over vocal duties for Freddie, since he was unable to finish the song in the time that he had left. If anything, a song like this serves as a testament to the kind of showman that we were working with for all those years. Freddie was rock royalty in every sense of the word, and this is the kind of sendoff that's worthy of the highest of monarchs.
