10 Emotional Rock Songs That Will Make You Cry

4. Here Today - Paul McCartney

There has been an entire encyclopedia of information over the years about just how well John Lennon and Paul McCartney really got along. Though they seemed to be kindred spirits when in the Beatles, the fallout of the Fab Four left many questioning just how far their friendship had fallen in the past few years. With Lennon's murder in 1980 though, Paul took it upon himself to set the record straight on the John that he knew.

Being on the first proper album he released after his writing partner's murder, Here Today is the kind of tribute that brings up memories of a song like Yesterday, with just an acoustic guitar and strings leading the way as Paul thinks about the last conversation that he could have had with John had he gotten the chance. Looking at the lyrics on their own, it almost reads like a letter, as Paul sets the record straight on how close they were in the early days and how much they both honestly cared for one another.

You could throw a dart at any point in this song and find a heart wrenching moment, but the kicker is at the end where Paul signs off, saying that he genuinely loved John and was glad that he came into his life to be a part of this magical journey. Because even with all of the business hangups that split them apart, nothing was going to come between that childhood bond.
