10 Emotional Rock Songs That Will Make You Cry
3. Tears In Heaven - Eric Clapton
A lot of people can come to terms with the idea of losing their parents at some point or another. Since they are much older than you are, it's the circle of life that you'll have to move on and find your way through life without them one day. It's another matter entirely when you to deal with the death of a child though.
Around the time that Eric Clapton was starting to turn a corner in his songwriting, nothing could have prepared him for the phone call he received in the early '90s, being told that his young son Connor had died after falling out of a window. A tragedy like this should have probably broke a man like Clapton, but Slowhand did what he did best and poured his feelings into song, with Tears in Heaven dripping with emotion just from the opening guitar notes.
The lyrics are on another level for Clapton, as he tries to speak to Connor one more time and see what it would be like if he were able to see him again in heaven. If that's not enough though, the chorus is where Clapton comes to terms with himself, saying that he doesn't feel like he deserves to see his son again, thinking that he failed as a father by not being there for him. Then again, there is at least some form of closure with the final chorus. Connor may not be here anymore, but there aren't any more tears to be found where he is.
