Originally recorded during sessions for Folie À Deux and included on the 2008 mixtape Welcome To The New Administration as a demo entitled ALPHAdog And OMEGAlomaniac, Alpha Dog is one of the most underrated tracks released before the band's hiatus. One of two previously unreleased (apart from said demo) tracks on the 2009 compilation Believers Never Die: Greatest Hits, it is suitably heavy, broody and angsty to sum up the group's incredible career.

Musically, Alpha Dog is unlike almost anything else released by the band. Heavy pretty much from start to finish, with brief breathers in between verse and chorus (and a serene bridge section), the song is a full-on onslaught of distorted guitars and one of the most diverse Patrick Stump vocal performances ever. The lyrics hint at the band's then-impending break from music, whether intentionally or not, and the delivery jumps around from soaring to melancholic to aggravated. Understandably due to its complexity, Alpha Dog has never been played in full live, although the chorus has been included in a few medleys live here and there.
