10 Essential Classic Fall Out Boy Songs
7. Thriller
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Whh_lXiEDsIt likely came as a surprise to most fans that the first voice they heard on Fall Out Boy's third album Infinity on High was that of hip-hop legend Jay-Z, but it worked fantastically well and set the tone for a fun, rebellious album.
Thriller is probably the most well placed song in Fall Out Boy's library. After signing with Island Records and releasing major label debutĀ From Under The Cork Tree in 2005, the band quickly found themselves at the forefront of the incredibly successful emo/pop punk movement spreading across the world. At an average age of just 23 years old, the four-piece toured extensively in promotion of the album and played to hundreds of thousands of energetic teenagers and young adults. At the same time though, they were receiving some pretty mediocre critical reviews and missing out on awards they believed they were due. Thriller was the response.
The song opens Infinity On High perfectly, with an extremely simple heavy riff bookending autobiographical verses detailing the band's early struggles with fame and recognition. If Grand Theft Autumn makes you cringe and Headfirst Slide is a bit too moody for you, Thriller might just be the perfect balance for you.
