https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFSP_n3llTU For fans of: Progressive and complex song arrangements. Leading up to the release of last year's Fortress album we saw many interviews with the band talking about how they deliberately wanted to challenge themselves and somewhat go against what was expected of a 'hard rock band'. Whereas the titans of American rock radio like Nickelback, Shinedown, Five Finger Death Punch etc. have honed their formulas to perfection (and received much criticism for it too) AB didn't want to be pigeonholed into the same bracket of knowing exactly what something was going to sound like before it was even released. Enter Cry of Achilles, the second single from the album, and the one that right off the bat opens with a Spanish flamenco-style acoustic section that then leads into a driving rhythmic riff and a humungous chorus. The mixups come with the arrangement of said chorus and in the absolutely amazing twin-guitar solos that end the song. The first is drenched in vibrato from Myles as he bends a host of notes skyward before Tremonti comes barrelling in with a barrage of shred-tastic notes, finishing with a technique that it'll take the rest of us a few decades to catch up with.
