For fans of: Oh-so beautiful ballads. The term 'ballad' tends to have a bad name in rock n' roll, especially when it's tagged onto those overly introspective tracks where some over-toured songwriter has to delve into the mindset of their twenty-year younger self for the sake of writing about drinking a bit too much or regretting some estranged lost love. On the flip-side it's a term that can be applied to everything from those sorts of songs to something as defining as Metallica's
Fade to Black, but when in the hands of Alter Bridge - and in particular Myles Kennedy - it turns into one of the most heartfelt, honest compositions you'll ever hear. Live it's just Myles, his guitar and your heart strings, which to be honest is all you need when the message behind it is so touching and life-affirming. Talking from the point of view of somebody who's past over to the other side and are now singing about who they had to leave behind, along with Tremonti's self-penned In Loving Memory which he wrote about his mother after passing away, it's easily one of the most beautifully sad and poetic tracks in their discography.
