10 Famous Musicians Who Are High-Level Mixed Martial Artists
These are the toughest men and women the music industry has to offer.
There are lot of famous musicians out there who openly embrace the tough guy (or girl) persona, and their music often perpetuates that image. Conversely, more than a few pop stars would rather be known as lovers than fighters.
However, as we are about to see, one's public image and the musical genre they're associated with often has little to do with their fighting prowess or martial arts knowledge. Of course, there is no shortage of recording artists who would appear to have the skills to match the bad boy image we've come to know.
With that in mind, it's time to shed a spotlight on ten very well known musical acts that have extensive martial arts background. This list features a very diverse group of performers in terms of both age and the type of music they perform. Some of the names featured will likely come as little surprise, while others most certainly will.
That being said, one thing all these megastars have in common is that they are a group of men and women one shouldn't trifle with.
10. Maynard James Keenan
Maynard James Keenan is the frontman for two very popular rock bands, Tool, and A Perfect Circle.
While the 5'7" native of Ravenna, Ohio is best known for belting out lyrics to songs like 'Sober,' he also happens to be an accomplished Brazilain Jiu-Jitsu practitioner. In fact, Keean currently holds a purple belt in the discipline.
It was another well-known musician, Primus Drummer Tim Alexander, who first introduced The Tool lyricist to the world of Jiu-Jitsu several years back. Due to his tremendous success in the industry, Keenan had become complacent as an artist and saw taking up the martial art as a chance to challenge himself.
Keenan is also the son of a former wrestling coach and competed in the sport during his time at Mason County Central High, back in the 1980s. The singer has even been known to return to his old stomping ground to help coach on occasion.
