5. Telling You They're From California - Red Hot Chili Peppers

In the year of our lord, 2016, legendary funk-rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers shocked the world. Approaching the release of their 11th studio album, the band released the single Dark Necessities and, in a move that confounded both hardcore fans and the wider public, it didn't contain a single lyrical mention of the US state of California.

Why the band had opted to veer into this drastic and radical new direction wasn't made public, but as the music industry en masse struggled to make any kind of sense of it, the band's loyalest followers consoled themselves by diving headfirst into the safety of their back catalog. Within, 47 songs, and 119 separate mentions, of the Golden State.

You see, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are from California, and as the yin to Pitbull's yan, it is vitally important to them that you never forget exactly where it is that they came from. It was enough for J Lo to drop one song to this effect and then move on with her life but, no, Kiedis and co have 5 full albums worth of material purely on the subject.
