10 Famous Pop Songs You Didn't Realise Were Covers

3. All Along The Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix

Bob Dylan is one of America’s most iconic musicians with a career spanning over 50 years and a discography including some of the best folk songs of all time. Despite his popularity, many people don’t realise that he originally wrote and recorded All Along the Watchtower.

Originally appearing on Dylan’s 1967 album John Wesley Harding, it has been covered by a variety of different artists spanning various genres.

However, its most well-known version is the Jimi Hendrix Experience’s 1968 cover for their third (and last) studio album, Electric Ladyland.

Hendrix’s version is widely regarded as one of the best covers of all time and was ranked at number 47 on Rolling Stone magazine’s 2004 “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time” list.
