10 Famous Rock Songs That Were Almost Called Something Else
8. Biffy Clyro's Mountains - Almost Called “Teeth Or Mountains”
Semi-Mental; Glitter and Trauma; There's No Such Thing as a Jaggy Snake; Toys, Toys, Toys, Choke, Toys, Toys, Toys. These are just some of the colourful song names from the pre-2009 catalogue of Scottish band Biffy Clyro.
'09 was a significant year for the group, as it saw the release of Only Revolutions, the album that really catapulted them into the mainstream. One of the songs to help with this transition was Mountains, the lead single, although it very nearly went the way of some of its oddly-titled forebears.
The song was going to be called Teeth or Mountains, which is reflected in the opening lyrics, "I took a bite out of a mountain range", an act that you definitely should not attempt to emulate.
Possibly because they wanted to seem more like normal human beings, Biffy dropped the "Teeth or" part and the song, now just called Mountains, became top five hit.
Did this stop the band from giving their songs really weird names?
Well, their next album included the tracks Sounds Like Balloons, A Girl and His Cat, and Picture a Knife Fight, so what do you think?
