10 Famous Rock Songs That Were Almost Called Something Else
6. Red Hot Chili Peppers' Hump De Bump - Almost Called “Ghost Dance 2000”
What was supposed to be a trilogy of single albums released within the space of six months, eventually turned into one double album from California's favourite ambassadors, Red Hot Chili Peppers.
With 28 songs split across a pair of discs, Stadium Arcadium had plenty of great material suitable for a single release, and five songs on the album got the solo treatment. The fifth and final of them was Hump de Bump, a fun, dancey track that originally began life as a jam.
Featuring bass player Flea on the trumpet, Hump de Bump ended up sounding very similar to a song from the Peppers' 1985 album, Freaky Styley.
Yes, the band have been going for that long, and yes, you are that old.
As that tune was called Ghost Dance, this one was initially going to be called Ghost Dance 2000, even though it came out in 2007...
Towards the end of the recording sessions, the decision was made to name the song after its most frequently-repeated phrase, but it would have been a nice treat for fans to read a throwback to a song from 22 years earlier.
Again, you are that old.
