Jett happened to see the show during The Runaways British tour of 1976, and turned what was initially something of a chart flop into a hit single that remained at the number one spot on the Billboard charts for seven weeks. 'I Love Rock 'n' Roll' was a hit again for Britney Spears in 2002, who erroneously told interviewers that she was covering a song by Pat Benatar, despite calling it one of her all-time favourites.
