10 Fascinating Backstories Behind Famous Rock Band's Names

6. Time For Change - Nickelback

The most divisive Canadians since Ryan Reynolds post-Green Lantern, Nickelback are usually a musical punchline, but you know what? Some of their stuff is pretty good.

They've got some genuine bangers in their arsenal, from Burn It to the Ground to This Means War to Edge of a Revolution, and when they're being overly sappy or weirdly sexual, they can produce some decent tunes.

Not that any of that matters, as half of you will have already skipped to the next entry by this point.

In a bizarre mirror image of My Chemical Romance, Nickelback's name also comes from the brother of the lead singer and their experiences at work.

Mike Kroeger, brother of Chad, used to work in a Starbucks before he got famous. When he would have over change to customers that contained five cents, he would say "Here's your nickel back".

Yes, five cent coins are still called nickels in Canada, except they have a picture of a beaver of the back. Next time you get change from a coffee shop, you might just get served by a future rock star. Probably not though.
