10 Fascinating Covers Of Led Zeppelin Classics

2. Vanilla Fudge - Dancing Days

Not one single song, really, but an entire album of Led Zeppelin covers here. In 2007, legendary psychedelic rockers Vanilla Fudge unexpectedly gave us Out Through The In Door (a play on the title of Zep's final album) which features a full dozen Zep tracks reworked in the distinctive Fudge style.

Vanilla Fudge, for those who many not be familiar with the band, started out back in 1967, releasing five albums of heavy, extended rock jams before disbanding in 1970. The group have re-united several times since, in various incarnations, notably touring with the surviving members of The Doors in 2005.

Vanilla Fudge are the only band on this list to predate Led Zeppelin, and who can legitimately claim to have influenced Zep with their proto-heavy metal sound. The entirety of Out Through The In Door is worth your time, but Dancing Days is a great place to start. With its druggy, lurching feel, swooping keyboards, martial drums and 'distanced' vocals, Fudge inhabit the song in a way few others could. A subtle, but loving reminder that these boys were doing it before Zep got properly started (albeit by only a couple of years), Vanilla Fudge's Dancing Days is a delight.
