10 Fascinating Niche Music Genres Which Need To Be Heard

5. Witch House

In many ways a conspiracy theorist's dream, the obscure genre, Witch House, displays a visual aesthetic which incorporates the occult, the bizarre, hidden symbols, strange codes, shamanism and, of course, witchcraft. Musically, Witch House blends hip-hop, industrial, avant-garde and noise, with a cut-and-paste approach, often mangling and twisting sounds, especially vocals, to create droning, repetitious soundscapes.

This is a genre which gleefully mixes and matches from all the dark corners of pop culture. If it's weird, Gothic or obscure, it's fair game. Anything related to the Illuminati, the dark web or the films of David Lynch is to be expected, although Witch House is happy to embrace lighter references with a magical element, such as those relating to the TV series, Charmed.

Slow tempos abound, but it is the atmospheric, somewhat unsettling nature of Witch House which defines its sound. Fans of John Carpenter's classic film soundtracks will find much to enjoy.
