10 Flawless Live Albums In Rock Music
7. Wings Over America - Wings
No one has really had a relationship with touring life quite like Paul McCartney. After the slew of Beatlemania in the '60s forced him to retire from the road and make records at Abbey Road, the first incarnation of Wings saw him starting at ground zero again, taking his music to different universities in the States. Once the public realized what this band on the run could do, Wings Over America was a document of just how much the Cute One knew how to rock.
Coming in with Moody Blues guitarist Denny Laine in tow, Wings' first proper live album is a lot to take in all at once, being three discs long across its runtime. Taken from hundreds of hours' worth of material, this runs as a practical greatest hits compilation from McCartney's solo years, while also giving fan favorites like Hi Hi Hi a shot of adrenaline.
There are even a few surprises in the track listing when Paul decides to play a few tracks from that other band he was in, with the crowd going wild when he brings out songs like The Long and Winding Road. A special mention also needs to go to Soily, which is one of the only new songs on the record that didn't receive a proper studio release. Then again, when you got it this right on the first try, you're tempting fate by trying to do it again.
