10 Flawless Rock Songs That Were Never Released On An Album

6. Soul to Squeeze - Red Hot Chili Peppers

The entire career trajectory of the Red Hot Chili Peppers pretty much switched on a dime the minute that John Frusciante joined the band. Even though it was a heavy blow losing Hillel Slovak to his heroin habit, John's gift for songwriting brought a lot more melody into the mix, giving Anthony Kiedis the opportunity to open up a little more on songs like Under the Bridge. And while Blood Sugar Sex Magik was already packed to the brim with amazing songs, even B-sides like Soul to Squeeze have become some of their best songs.

Much like Under the Bridge did a few months prior, this is Anthony getting a lot more introspective on a track, talking about trying to find some peace of mind in the crazy life he leads. If Under the Bridge was him cleansing himself of his drug dependency, this is what happens afterwards when you start focusing on going wherever life takes you and keeping your head above water.

Then again, you can see why some parts may have not been fully fleshed out yet, especially on the back half of the song where Anthony starts to make up gibberish to fill out the rest of the verse. Despite never finding a home on a studio record, Soul to Squeeze became such a fan favorite that it ended up on the Peppers' greatest hits album as well. Regardless of whether it's a B-side or not, the best songs of all time don't need the promotion. The masses will end up coming to them.
