10 Flawless Rock Songs That Were Never Released On An Album
2. You Know You're Right - Nirvana
In the wake of the death of Kurt Cobain, the entire rock scene got the wind knocked out of their sails. Even though Kurt was a reluctant superstar, he was supposed to be the next voice of a generation before his inner demons got the better of him. And the story of Nirvana should have ended then and there, only to have that one final song sitting in the vault.
When Nirvana were going through songs to include on a greatest hits collection, they unearthed the one song that Kurt had written during what would become their final studio session, with the tentative title of You Know You're Right. Quickly finding its way onto the radio due to different leaks of the song, it's almost surreal to hear this song in context, hearing that tortured voice again as if it was some ghost from the past.
As much as this works as a more metallic version of what Nirvana could do in the In Utero days, it's almost difficult to listen to in spots for just how much Kurt is letting his voice go, getting more and more worn out as the track goes on. Being only a few months removed from when he would eventually take his own life, this almost feels like a cry for help, as he tries desperately to let his frustration out through his music. That kind of help would never come though, and all that we're left with is this song, acting like a vision of what could have been.
