10 Forgotten 2000s Bands Worth Rediscovering

9. System Of A Down

If there was one metal rock group that managed to unite everyone, no matter their musical predilection, it was System of a Down. You could be in a room with hip hop heads, pop punks and indie kids, but if you dropped Toxicity or Chop Suey, you had everyone mimicking Serj Tankian's erratic, scat-style vocals.

They dominated the early 2000s metal scene, with their bizarre mixture of traditional Armenian melodies, thrash metal, and alternative rock. Throughout all the excited madness, they managed to intertwine insanely catchy melodies, however, hooking even the most staunch metal detractors.

While Limp Bizkit were captivating us with songs about being a 'total bro', System of a Down were delivering tracks with a little more substance.

Tankian's lyrics exhibited the same spirit as Rage Against the Machine. They were spat with venom, delving into topics as dark as suicide, and as complex as America's foreign policy in the Middle East. Of course, to the majority of us, we just thought these tracks sounded dope. But go back and take a re-listen, there's a lot of hard hitting stuff in there.
