10 Forgotten Rock Music Gems From The 80s You Need To Rediscover

9. Steel Claw - Tina Turner

Of all the great R&B singers coming out of the late '60s, Tina Turner was the only one that actually felt like she was part of the rock category. Even though people like Aretha Franklin and Otis Redding covered rock acts all time, Tina's take on Proud Mary showed us that she could bring the heat just as much as the rockers could. Just when you thought she'd be slowing down in her twilight years, she still had an axe to grind on Steel Claw.

Given all the music she already had under her belt, this almost feels like a sequel song to her Proud Mary cover, using the same type of relentless groove to keep you holding on for dear life throughout the track. Since Tina no longer had to worry about her ex-husband Ike grinding her down at this point, this feels like a woman finally free and willing to do everything she can to prove herself again.

Even with the many different versions of Tina we have gotten over the years, this feels like the woman she always wanted to be; willing to kick ass and take names wherever she sees fit. Many rock bands nowadays could probably do a credible cover of a song like this, but if you have to live up to Mrs. Turner, you'd understand why even the bravest won't take on that challenge.
