10 Glorious "Dad Rock" Albums

5. Highway to Hell - AC/DC

Any type of traditional dad rock always comes back around into the blues at some point or another. Regardless of what kind of rock and roll you gravitate towards, the middle aged brand of rock and roll tends to cater to the kinds of rock music that made acts like Cream and Skynyrd so good to begin with. For the real stuff though, you need to travel down under to get the full story.

While people tend to accuse AC/DC of having "same-song-itis" from time to time, it sure as hell doesn't wear out its welcome on Highway to Hell. Being the last album they would ever record with Bon Scott, this was the moment where the synergy of the band was at its peak, as Angus Young's guitar licks perfectly played off of the backbeat of Phil Rudd's drums.

Outside of the cranked guitar chords though, this is still one of the most no-BS rock albums in the entire rock canon, with songs like Girl's Got Rhythm and Walk All Over You holding absolutely nothing back in their presentation. This is the kind of music that caters to a retro form of badass, but being a badass at all is good enough on its own. Hell, if it's good enough to soundtrack Iron Man, it's good enough for your dad's stationwagon.
