10 Glorious "Dad Rock" Albums
4. Hotel California - Eagles
Not every great dad rock album is looking to impress you right out of the gate. Since this is music that has aged a little bit, it's not exactly going to come out with all guns blazing right from the get go. Sometimes it's best to just chill the hell out and lounge with a cocktail with the Eagles.
Regardless of what The Big Lebowski might have told you, the music on Hotel California is still some of the most soothing rock and roll you will ever hear. Being some of the greatest songwriters of the time, this is the kind of music that transports you to the sunny side of Hollywood, where dreams can come true and be stolen away from you within the span of the same day. When it comes to the voices of dad rock, Don Henley could pretty much be the face of the genre, having the right type of gravel in his voice while still being rooted in the bluesy structure that rock and rollers love.
So now you have an album that serves two functions, one being to give you food for thought away from the riffs, and the other to give you killer tunes to jam out to while you lounge by the pool. Whereas other rock bands make you headbang, this is the music to pop open a cold one to and soak up the sun.
