10 Good Songs That Were Made AMAZING By Their Music Video
7. Jeremy - Pearl Jam
Ever since their inception, Pearl Jam were known as a pretty powerful live band. With most of their videos being nothing more than concert clips of the band's wildest moments, it seemed that they could make an entire career out of just delivering their hits to the fans. Imagine what would happen if they had a more conceptual video...
Released on their debut album Ten, "Jeremy" is the very-real story of a young boy who shot himself in front of his classmates a few years prior. Vocalist Eddie Vedder's fascination with the story led to elaborate storyboards with the titular Jeremy being depicted as an apathetic kid who seems disinterested in the world around him. When it came time for the final shots, most networks were horrified by the final clip of the child actor placing the gun barrel in his mouth.
This video caused just as much outrage as it did adulation, which soon became too much for the band to handle. Unhappy with how much the video was taking away from the music, the band refused to make any more proper videos for many years until their animated video for "Do The Evolution." Vedder may have seen the video as a corporate product, but the content has far more substance than most corporate suits could muster.
