10 Good Songs That Were Made AMAZING By Their Music Video

8. 1979 - The Smashing Pumpkins

By the time the Smashing Pumpkins got around to making their double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, they were quickly becoming one of the biggest bands in the world. While their previous effort Siamese Dream launching them into the stratosphere, this sprawling epic pumped out hits faster than Billy Corgan's hair loss. Though "1979" was another massive smash, the video helped put everything in perspective.

For as brash as the rest of the record is, this song is much more subdued as Corgan talks about his childhood adolescence with a certain awe. In order to best represent that inner nostalgia, the video is breathtaking as it paints the picture of a bunch of kids wreaking havoc throughout their town. The kind of fun they get into in the video is so innocent that nearly anyone can point to a time in their lives that relates with the tale of these kids.

Without the video, Corgan's nasal whine may have been a bit too much for the average soccer mom to stomach. However, as soon as you got a look into the lives of those kids, you knew just how important the song is. It may not be that extravagant, but that's what makes it so beautiful.
