10 Great Albums By Artists People Hate
8. Songs About Jane - Maroon 5
For all of the radio hits that they have put out in the past few years, Maroon 5 is probably one of the last bands that should be on any rock fans' mind. They may be one of the few actual bands that can light up the charts these days, but Adam Levine is content to just make this a glorified solo outfit and sell out in whatever way they can, either through pointless features or writing songs that have absolutely no substance to them. Which is a shame because that definitely wasn't the case when they were starting out.
If you go back and listen to the tracks off of Songs About Jane, you'll hear a band that is toeing the line between pop and rock near perfectly, even adding doses of funk into their sound on radio hits like This Love. That's just a drop in the bucket for what this album has to offer, like the heavy (for Maroon 5) sound of album opener Harder to Breathe and closing up shop pretty nicely with Sweetest Goodbye.
And as much as he has become annoying in the past few years, it's not like Adam doesn't have a good voice on here either, like telling the story of this girl that's down on her luck on She Will Be Loved and then basking in the sunrise on the hook of Sunday Morning. This has no place next to the likes of Metallica or anything, but there's still rock buried in here underneath all of that pop frosting.
