10 Great Bands With One Terrible Album
2. Raditude - Weezer
It's always nice to see musicians evolve through the years. Even though it's fine for them to just deliver consistently good material throughout their career, seeing a band taking risks and becoming better musicians just makes you feel good to be a fan at the end of the day. Out of all of the bands on this list though, Raditude by Weezer is the one time where it feels like the band was actively regressing.
Although albums like Make Believe were already a bit contentious in Weezer's catalog, these are the kind of songs that feel almost sacrilege for Weezer to be making at this point in their career.
Instead of settling into their trademark power pop sound, this feels like the guys just dove headfirst into the pop world and fell flat on their face. While not all of the songs are incompetently played or anything, songs like I'm Your Daddy deserve the distinction of being one of the worst rock songs of the '00s.
Whenever you take a risk like this, you can at least tell that the artists in question have a passion for what they're doing. Listening to Raditude though, this just feels like a band that wants to succeed by any means necessary, even if it means betraying their old fans.
You can call it pop rock, you can even just call it straight up pop music, but this is NOT WEEZER. Not by a longshot.
