While The Lonely Island are before anything else, a comedy band, it is hard to deny that some of their songs turn out far better than they have any right to. Consisting of Andy Samberg (of Brooklyn-99 fame), Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, the calibre of mainstream star that they have managed to feature is testament to how popular they are - Rihanna, Justin Timberlake and T-Pain to name but a few.
Michael Bolton is best known for his rock ballads (When A Man Loves A Woman, Steel Bars etc) as well as performing "Go The Distance" on Disney's Hercules, but less people are familiar with his work as a rock singer fronting Blackjack. So when he was featured by The Lonely Island, it was difficult to know what to expect.
What we got was a masterpiece. The Lonely Island boys start off with generic rap-style satirical lyrics about clubs, drinking and women before throwing across to Bolton... who refuses to stay on topic and keeps on going off on beautifully-sung tangents about films he enjoys.
The song goes back and forward in this manner, with Bolton refusing to play ball and the music video being legitimately hilarious. Required viewing for sure.
