10 Great Grinspoon Tracks

5. Make It Happen

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJQB3MRIRXo There are two contenders for the band's heaviest album, debut, 'Guide To Better Living', and third outing, 'New Detention'. At first contact, the former would be clear winner, but then, listen more, and it becomes apparent that, although, less aggressive, the latter has a much thicker guitar sound, clunky bass tone and tighter, more in-your-face mix on the drums. I feel this is a good choice because it showcases a lot of different aspects of the band in just over four minutes. You have a super taut groove, a lovely chord progression in the chorus and the rhythm section in perfect sync. Also, Jamieson uses this one to display a few different facets of his voice. An airing of his harsh, heated vocals, a snippet of that, somewhat sarcastic, almost camp delivery and, of course, the big, lush singing. A pretty good representation of what was going on 'New Detention' as a whole. Definitely a good album to start with, as it features a healthy mash up of what had gone before, and what was to come.

Live and work in Aberdeen, Scotland...unfortunately. Sang in My Minds Weapon (Basick/Drakkar/Sony) for ten years (2002 - 2012) and now just tinkering with various other projects. Die hard Leeds United fan. Metalhead in my heart but also love many other genres of music. Also enjoy anything with Christopher Walken or David Caruso. Family live in Perth, Australia, so have been there many times. Best place in the world.
