10 Great Hard Rock Songs You Won't Find On Spotify

9. Dream Machine - The God Machine

Fans of British indie music might recognise Robin Proper-Sheppard as the lead singer and main lynch pin of the band Sophia.

Also, because he's got an absolutely incredible name.

Mr. Proper-Sheppard was also in another band with a much harder edge - the San Diego alt-rock group The God Machine.

Formed in 1990 and around for just four years, The God Machine also put out two studio albums before the tragic death of their bass player Jimmy Fernandez brought a halt to their output.

Their second album is called One Last Laugh in a Place of Dying and it's quite popular amongst fans in the know. Publication Alternative Press named it one of the 90 Greatest Albums of the 90s in 1998, although how they could have done that before the decade was actually over is beyond us.

That might be why this record is on Spotify and their first one isn't. Scenes from the Second Storey has yet to turn up on the streaming service, making it much harder to hear excellent songs like Dream Machine.

A group that's due a critical reappraisal, perhaps we will be hearing from The God Machine in years to come.
