10 Great Non-Rock Covers Of Rock Songs

8. Cookin’ On 3 Burners - Enter Sandman (Originally By Metallica)

Sticking with James Hetfield and co. for now, but shifting gears to a drastically different genre.

Australian funk trio Cookin' on 3 Burners achieved their biggest mainstream success when French DJ Kungs remixed their song This Girl in 2016. The new track reached number one in several European countries and peaked at number two in the UK.

Ah well, can't win 'em all.

Whilst their version of Metallica's Enter Sandman didn't have quite the same commercial impact, it's still an absolute bop.

Remaining fairly true to the Black Album opener, Burners' instrumental attempt at the song subs out the guitar line for a bass and the vocal melody for an organ. The drums are turned up to eleven, slapping so quickly Lars Ulrich would have nightmares just thinking about it.

Just how the Aussie lads managed to find the groove in what is a pretty conventional hard rock song is beyond us, but it is a testament to their musical ability.

Music is all about seeing what others cannot, and spotting a 70s funk track in amongst lyrics about dragon's fire and never-neverland certainly qualities as just that.
