10 Great Non-Rock Covers Of Rock Songs

9. Apocalyptica - One (Originally By Metallica)

In 1993, four cellists from Finland formed a band with the sole purpose of covering Metallica songs in a classical style.

No, you haven't gone mad, you did just read that correctly.

Apocalyptica have since gone from strength to strength, progressing to writing and recording their own music and working with some of the biggest names in modern rock like Till Lindemann, Brent Smith, and Corey Taylor.

But let's go back to the band's roots for now and a breath-taking version of one of Metallica's best songs.

On their second album Inquisition Symphony, the band recorded a version of the ...And Justice for All track One. A firm favourite amongst the Metallica faithful, One is a seven-and-a-half minute epic about the horrors of war told from the perspective of a injured soldier begging for death.

It's a pretty heavy song then, especially lyrically. So how did Apocalyptica fare with this instrumental rendition?

Pretty well, as their version still captures the intensity of the original through the band's technically proficient playing and superb production.

Metallica are amongst some of the best song crafters metal has ever seen, so it's no surprise that their music translates so well to classical.
