10 Great Paul McCartney Solo Songs You Need To Listen To Right Now

4. Rinse The Raindrops (Driving Rain - 2001)

Driving Rain is perhaps best known for Paul’s 9/11 tribute song, 'Freedom', the proceeds of which were donated to the families of the victims.

One of the more overlooked tracks on Driving Rain is 'Rinse The Raindrops', although it’s not hard to find if you look for it, because it’s the longest solo song Paul has ever recorded.

Probably the most contentious song on this list, 'Rinse The Raindrops' is a ten minute long, wild, rambling song that features McCartney singing, sometimes almost screaming, the same verse over and over again over a pounding and feral guitar. And it is glorious.

It's like somebody cut open whatever part of McCartney's body stores his musicality and this is what came streaming out - unaltered, unfiltered music in its purest form with McCartney attempting to guide us through it like a screaming Sherpa. It’s yet another example of McCartney pushing the boundaries of music, even forty years into his musical career, exploring new and interesting ways of presenting his songs.

Stick it on, but only if you have some serious time to kill.
