10 Great Paul McCartney Solo Songs You Need To Listen To Right Now

5. Used To Be Bad Ft. Steve Miller (Flaming Pie - 1997)

Another album and, yet again, something totally different from one of music’s greatest chameleons.

1997’s Flaming Pie, Paul’s first solo album in four years, contains a number of wonderful songs including 'The World Tonight', 'Souvenir' and the fabulous 'Calico Skies'.

Alongside these, Paul teamed up with 'The Joker' singer, Steve Miller, for the blues-rock duet, 'Used To Be Bad'. Miller lends his gruff vocals to this twelve bar style blues number, featuring a simple hook, a subject matter surrounding a man giving up his evil ways to settle down with his lady and plenty of grammatical errors in the words. Blues to a tee.

Paul has always been a pioneer and experimenter – you just have to listen to Sgt. Pepper’s or The White Album to see that – and got to where he is today by not being afraid to try something new. Love it or hate it, you have to admire the guts it takes to take a leap, even when you’ve already made your name in something totally different.
