10 Great Rock Albums With Terrible Titles
9. De-Loused In The Comatorium - The Mars Volta
Sometimes an album name is bad because it just doesn't make any sense, which is exactly the fate that befell this modern classic from The Mars Volta.
Forming in El Paso, Texas in 2001, this progressive rock band burst onto the scene two years later with their debut release. It was a major success, not just amongst those in the know, but amongst the general public too. it went silver in the UK, which means that thousands of people went out to their local record store to buy something called De-Loused in the Comatorium.
Where to even begin?
First of all, Comatorium isn't a word, at least not one that's recognised by any dictionary worth its salt. Secondly, "De-Loused"? Who wants to buy something that needs to be de-loused?
Maybe this bizarre name says something about the state of music fans at the time; that they were willing to try something new and didn't care that much about the deep meaning behind it.
Or perhaps it goes to show that good music will sell no matter what, even if its title does evoke images of insect infestations.
