10 Great Rock Music Singles That Never Appeared On An Album
5. Whatever - Oasis
Acting as very much the spiritual successor to bands like The Jam and The Clash, as well as borrowing Paul Weller's haircut, Oasis defined British music for a generation of young people in the 1990s.
Their first album, Definitely Maybe from 1994, was a gigantic success, the best-selling debut record of all time in the moment. Singles like Supersonic, Cigarettes & Alcohol, and Live Forever made a huge impact, gearing the band up for a lifetime of fame and fortune.
One year later, they released what many consider to be their opus, (What's The Story) Morning Glory?. To bridge the gap between their first two albums, Manchester's finest put out a standalone single named Whatever.
Backed by a string section and Liam Gallagher in his finest tracksuit, Whatever was also gobbled up by the public, giving the young group their highest-charting single at the time. You'd think this would have earned it a spot on Morning Glory.
You'd be wrong.
Whatever remains an album exile, but that hasn't stopped it from retaining its place amongst the band's most beloved tracks. Not even a lawsuit over who wrote it could stop that.
