10 Great Rock Music Singles That Never Appeared On An Album

4. Panic - The Smiths

It might repeat the phrase about 700 times in two-and-a-half minutes, but this song is not called "hang the DJ".

Instead, that is merely the battle cry of Smiths frontman and professional imbecile Morrissey, as he rallies against the state of modern music. He also instructs his acolytes to "burn down the disco", which would result in the sparkliest fire of all time.

The Smiths were only around between 1982 and 1987, but released four albums in that time. They all went to at least number two in the charts, with 1985's Meat is Murder being the only one to go top, but a number of their most famous songs stood on their own.

This Charming Man was never on a studio album and neither was Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now. Instead, The Smiths had a habit of releasing a bunch of singles and then chucking them out again on compilation albums.

Panic suffered a similar fate, getting a solo release in 1986 and then ending up on The World Won't Listen and then Louder Than Bombs.

So, technically, it's been on two albums, but none of them were official studio releases.

That still counts, right?
